FAQ

Common DMI questions.

What is DMI?
Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a therapeutic technique used by appropriately trained physical and occupational therapy professionals to work on postural control, balance, strength, and functional movement through progressively challenging tasks.
Who may benefit from DMI?
Children with a range of developmental and physical needs may be considered. Appropriateness is determined individually by the treating clinician.
What happens during a session?
A trained therapist guides the child through individualized activities matched to their goals. Sessions are hands-on and structured to challenge the child while honoring who they are.
How long is a session?
Session length is individualized. We'll share details when we discuss your child's plan.
How is DMI different from traditional therapy?
DMI uses a specific approach and progression of tasks. Many children receive DMI alongside their existing therapies as part of a broader plan.
Does my child need a specific diagnosis?
A diagnosis alone does not determine whether DMI is appropriate. Each child should be considered individually by a qualified clinician.
Can my child receive DMI alongside their existing therapies?
Often yes. We're happy to collaborate with your existing therapy team when helpful.
How do I get started?
Submit an inquiry through our contact form. Our clinical team will review the information and follow up about appropriate next steps.

Appropriateness of DMI must be determined individually by the treating clinician.
